About Corporal Jenkins
This 2004 Dodge Intrepid was a K-9 unit from University of Central Florida driven by Corporal Mario Jenkins who was shot and killed on September 24, 2005 by "friendly fire". He was working undercover at a college football game investigating a group of tailgaters for underage drinking. Corporal Jenkins approached the group of students and identified himself as a police officer. As he began to question them, the students became belligerent and a scuffle ensued. During the scuffle, Corporal Jenkins' service weapon was discharged. The shots attracted the attention of a nearby Orlando police officer who immediately responded to the scene. The officer, unaware of Corporal Jenkins' identity, fired three shots and mortally wounded him.
Corporal Jenkins had served with the University of Central Florida Police Department for 3 years and was posthumously promoted to the rank of corporal. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and had previously served with the Clermont Police Department for 1 year.
About the 2004 Dodge Intrepid
The Dodge Intrepid is a large four-door, full-size, front-wheel drive sedan car model that was produced for model years 1993 to 2004.
The second generation Intrepid, 1998-2004, was also used for commercial and government purposes. These vehicles were used to make police interceptors, fire chief cars, and taxis similar to the earlier Chevrolet Caprice or Ford Crown Victoria. These packages had distinctive styling differences and additional wiring to support strobes and flashers in the trunk compartment and in the front by the grill.
